About David

David Millard Haskell—A Brief Bio

David grew up among farmers and factory workers in rural southwestern Ontario.

After an undergraduate and master’s degree, he worked as a TV journalist. Along the way, David’s work in journalism got him wondering about the scholarly side of media and communication so, in addition to his day job, in his 30s he started work on a doctorate.

As a newly minted PhD, David was hired as a professor by Wilfrid Laurier University in the 2005. His main appointment was to the nascent Journalism Program where, over the years, he worked up to the level of Program Chair. In addition to developing and teaching courses in professional writing, he’s been the sole full-time professor of public speaking.

As his scholarly expertise in the area of social movements expanded, he was cross appointed to his university’s Department of Religion and Culture.

David’s scholarship has used qualitative and quantitative methods to study how conservative groups and movements can employ strategic communication and other means to grow. His research has been published in the world’s top journals and has been covered by national and international news media.

It was in 2009, after the publication of his book on the
news media’s portrayal of conservative Christians,
that David realized there was a gap in the area of
strategic communications consulting. Right-leaning
individuals and groups often had the best evidence
and solutions—but their messages were being muted
or distorted.

Haskell Strategic Communications was launched to come along side those who are dedicated to personal freedoms and conservative values to assist them in being heard and understood. The company has committed itself to truth, amplified.

That commitment seems to have amplified its success: experiencing continual growth, the business incorporated in 2024.

David is married and he and his wife have five children. He is active
in his church and local politics. He is a member of the Society for
Academic Freedom and Scholarship, a senior research fellow for the
Aristotle Foundation, and a public advocate for conservative causes.
